Katy Perry responds to PETA accusations

Katy Perry is defending her use of animals in her music video for "Roar."

The singer was criticized by PETA for casting animal actors, telling the "Daily Star" that animals used for entertainment often endure "horrific cruelty" and are kept in "extreme confinement."  PETA also claimed that Katy had used animals from the Serengeti Ranch, which it implied was under close watch by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Perry is responding to their accusations by getting a letter of approval issued by the American Humane Association.

Representatives from the organization were present at Katy's three-day video shoot, according to "The Hollywood Reporter."

The statement confirms that the animal handlers followed the proper procedures and that "no animal was harmed in the making of this music video."
